Troubled singer Brian Harvey today took a turn for the worse, slipping back into an unconscious state.

Hooked up to a life support machine and ventilator, the next few days are crucial to the crash star's survival after he suffered multiple injuries in a mystery car crash that has left him fighting for his life.

And his model girlfriend Emma B, who has cancelled a job offer in Los Angeles to be by his bedside, said: "All we hear at the minute is bleep, bleep, there's no movement, nothing."

The former East 17 star's parents and girlfriend have been keeping a bedside vigil since the accident on Tuesday morning and are all hoping he will pull through.

But doctor's at St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, where the star is in intensive care, are not looking at a long term prognosis and are waiting to see how Harvey recovers over the next 72 hours.

Speaking today, Harvey's agent Simon Harrison said: "I have spoken to Emma at length and they are all very concerned about Brian's health.

"He is in a very critical condition but stable on a life support and ventilator. He is not on the mend, not by a long stretch. He's just lying there being kept alive by machines having had a serious operation and is showing no signs of recovering or getting over the worst of it.

"It's still touch and go whether he'll pull out of this. He's definitely not through the worst of it."

Harvey has been floating in and out of consciousness since he was admitted to hospital to undergo treatment for the injuries he suffered in the crash near his home in Walthamstow, east London.

Mr Harrison said: "After the first operation he acknowldeged his mum in the room and seemed to float in and out of consciousness, but that is not the case at the moment, he is unconscious again.

"But there is certainly no brain damage from what we know which is a good sign, but the doctors are not giving us any false hope, they are saying the next few days are crucial to his survival."

Upset at being misquoted as saying Harvey was 'through the worst of it', Mr Harrison said: "What I said was completely taken out of context. I said he was over the worst operation. He is my no means through the worst of it though and I felt awful this morning when I saw the papers.

"I said he had had the worst operation, which was the abdominal one, and it has really upset the family who have been reading he is over the worst of it when it is far from the truth."

Since the accident Harvey's agent has received a "ton" of calls from fans and industry bigwigs, which he said the singer would be "really chuffed about".

He added: "We are all desperately hoping for better news, but at the moment his girlfriend Emma said 'All we hear at the minute is bleep, bleep, there's no movement, nothing.'"
