Troubled singer Brian Harvey has had to undergo further surgery after suffering multiple injuries in a mystery car crash that left him fighting for his life, it emerged today.

Harvey's parents and on-off girlfriend, model Emma B, were maintaining a bedside vigil today at St George's Hospital in Tooting, south London, where he remains in a "critical" condition.

And the model has cancelled a planned business trip to the US to be by his bedside after she was reduced to tears when he appeared to recognise her.

However in a bizarre twist of fate 30-year-old Harvey's flagging career has finally received a welcome boost with the fallen East 17 star's agent receiving a flood of offers to sign him up.

While undergoing treatment for the injuries he suffered in Tuesday's crash near his home in Walthamstow, east London, Harvey has received a ringtone deal.

And interest in his comeback single, which Harvey was working on before the crash, soared after an acappella version was played by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley on her show yesterday.

Harvey is also said to have been offered a publishing deal.

Speaking today, Harvey's agent Simon Harrison said: "From what I know from his father when they got to St George's Hospital after he was transferred there yesterday from Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone the top guy was not happy at all with the seven hour operation he'd had the day before to his abdomen and pelvis.

"They redid it last night, so he was back in surgery until nearly midnight so that's not good and again he's had a rough night after major surgery. It's unbelievable."

Mr Harrison added: "Brian was lying in an operation theatre yesterday and we got an offer for a ringtone deal.

"Jo Whiley also played the acappella version of his new single yesterday and it got such a great response I thought I'd finish it off and release it for charity, so I am working with some producers to add the music.

"The money raised will go to a leukaemia charity in memory of his grandparents, who were the closest people to him and both died from it. I spoke to his mum and dad about it and it just felt right.

"I've known him since his East 17 days and he is a really nice bloke and still has a fantastic voice. How he has managed to keep it up for 10 years despite being rubbished I don't know - it would put most people off. But so long as he has the hunger to do it I will be here for him."

Awaiting news of his progress and the long term prognosis Emma B has decided not to fly to Los Angeles tomorrow for talks with TV producers about starring in a reality show.

Her agent said: "She was with him until very late last night and was due to fly to LA tomorrow for 10 days to meet with some producers for a US reality show, but she has postponed it for now because she wants to be with him for the next few days to see how he does.

"She said she didn't really care about all that and wanted to cancel it for now. She will sit and be with him until he gets the all clear and is on the mend. It's a crucial stage right now and he could need up to six months rehab before he's even up and about."

Talking about how the model coped when she heard the shocking news, he added: "I don't think she can believe it. This time last week she was as happy as anything and a week later it has all changed, she said it just puts everything in perspective.

"He was conscious yesterday and showing signs of knowing who Emma was and smiled when her saw her face and she just burst into tears."
