Troubled singer Brian Harvey says he hopes to walk again as he explained how he came to be crushed under his own car in a freak accident.

The former East 17 star is recovering at home with a metal brace holding his shattered pelvis in place.

He told GMTV doctors said he could eventually make a full recovery.

Harvey said the accident occurred when he opened his car door to be sick, only to be tossed from his seat and pulled under the wheels as the car shot back.

"I had just been stuffing my face with a load of jacket potatoes and I felt sick, so I opened my car door to be sick." the singer explained.

"Instead of putting my foot on the brake, I put it on the accelerator and it flew back. I must have hit four or five parked cars."

Physiotherapy

The singer suffered severe stomach, lung and leg injuries in the crash on 31 May and was in a coma for several weeks.

"My stomach was pushed into my lungs, which collapsed, and I was told the heel of one of my feet was found up round the back of my head."

But while he admitted he had tried to commit suicide twice before the accident, he denied this had been another attempt to kill himself.

"If you were going to commit suicide you wouldn't do it like this," he said.

Harvey, who turned 31 on Monday, is recovering at the Hastings home of his girlfriend, model Emma B.

He says he hopes to be walking again by Christmas after an intense period of physiotherapy.

Brian Harvey has spoken to Radio 1 about his horrific car accident.

He has metal rods holding his pelvis together and is 100% dependent. His girlfriend, model Emma B, does absolutely everything for him.

They're hoping once the rods come out in a couple of weeks, he'll make a full recovery and be able to walk again although it will be a long process.

Brian was in a surprisingly upbeat mood when he spoke to us. Prior to the accident, he made two suicide attempts after his nan died as he was flying out to take part in 'I'm a Celebrity...'.

Brian's had a chequered life and admits he made a huge mistake years ago when he revealed he took ecstasy but says after all that's gone on - he wants to move on:

"I should have had more of a brain to realise where it would have gone. But that was just the start of a long chain of events. Since then it was bankruptcies and machete attacks."

"All those things, when they happen to you, it's going to affect you, I'm not superman, it did affect me."

"It's taken something like this to make me realise that if you're alive, you're lucky to be alive. I was in hospital and said to the doctor, 'I'm the unluckiest bloke I know'."

"He came in the next day and said, 'You know you said to me yesterday you're unlucky? 99.9% of people with these injuries would have died'. I said, 'You know what, I can't be that unlucky then'."

Brian's 31 today. He told Radio 1 he's planning on writing a book about his life.
