EAST 17 are still big - in Estonia

The Walthamstow trio - BRIAN HARVEY,TERRY COLDWELL and JOHN HENDY - are currently touring the UK but will soon be travelling to eastern Europe where their fanbase remains strong.

Terry, speaking before a gig at The Ivory Rooms in Billericay, Essex, said: "The hard done by countries in that area have always related to the messages in our songs.

"We're touring in Estonia soon and we've still got a big following in Russia and Romania."

Indeed, as Brian explains, in 2007 the band played a part in a pivotal moment in Romania's history.

"We brought them into the EU," he said.

"John couldn't make it, but it was just me and Terry playing in front of 40,000 people on New Year's Eve celebrating with them.

"It was mental!"

Now just a three-piece after singer and songwriter TONY MORTIMER left the band, the 90s favourites say they'll carry on as long as their fans want them to.

Though Brian admitted he would one day like to see the group's founder joining them on stage once again.

"I feel a little bit bad, it was his group," he said.

"Now he's not in it and it's us three."

"No one's died, it's not something none of us can get over. Hopefully we'll be able to sort something out."
